Still unsure which desert?
The short version: Agafay for an evening, Zagora for two days, Merzouga for three. If you have three days and are choosing between them, take Merzouga — it is the reason people come to Morocco for the Sahara.
Frequently asked questions
How far is the Sahara desert from Marrakech?
Zagora is 6 to 7 hours by road. Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes are 9 to 10 hours. The Agafay, which is a stone desert with no dunes, is 40 minutes.
How much is a desert tour from Marrakech?
From €25 for an Agafay evening, €69 for two days to Zagora, €95 for three days to Merzouga. Those are shared prices, per person.
What is included in a multi-day tour?
Hotel pickup, an air-conditioned minibus with an English- and French-speaking driver-guide, a private room with ensuite at the hotel stop, a private tent at the camp, dinners and breakfasts, and camel treks at sunset and sunrise.
What is not included?
Lunches, drinks, monument entrance fees, the local guide at Aït Benhaddou, and tips.
How do I book?
Choose your date and group size on the tour page and press the WhatsApp button. The message is pre-filled. We confirm within about two hours.
Do I pay in advance?
No. No deposit, no card, no account. You pay in cash when we pick you up.
Can I cancel?
Free of charge up to 24 hours before departure, and since there is no deposit there is nothing to refund.
Is the desert cold at night?
Yes, and it catches people out. Nights are 15 to 20 degrees below the daytime high, and between November and February they can approach freezing at the dunes.
Do I have to ride a camel?
No. We can take you to the camp by 4x4 instead, at no extra cost. Just tell us when you book.
What languages do your guides speak?
English and French on all shared departures. Spanish, Italian and German are available on private tours — ask when you book.
Is there wifi at the desert camps?
Camps run on solar, so there is light and limited charging. Treat wifi as absent.
Are the tours suitable for children?
The Agafay activities and the day trips are. For multi-day tours we recommend the 4-day over the 3-day with young children, and a private vehicle so you can have a child seat and stop when you need to.
