Sunset camel ride in the Agafay
A camel ride in the Agafay costs from €25 per person and takes about four hours door to door, of which roughly an hour is in the saddle. Handlers lead the camels on foot the whole way, so no experience is needed and it suits children from about four sharing a saddle. Book the sunset slot — it is the same price and a completely different experience.
What the hour is actually like
The camels walk in a line, led by handlers, along the ridges and dry riverbeds of the plateau. It is slow — that is the point. You get the Atlas on one side, empty grey hills on the other, and enough silence to hear the harnesses.
Mounting is the only awkward part: the camel kneels, you sit, and it stands up front-end first, which tips you backwards. Hold the front of the saddle and it is a non-event.
