Ouzoud waterfalls day trip

The Ouzoud falls drop 110 metres in three tiers, three hours north-east of Marrakech. The day is about ten hours, from €25 per person, and includes the walk down through the olive groves, a boat ride to the foot of the falls, and the wild macaques that live around the site.

The day

  • Three hours of driving each way through the Middle Atlas foothills
  • The path down through olive terraces to the base of the falls
  • A short boat ride into the spray — a few euros, worth it
  • Barbary macaques in the trees; keep food out of sight

When to go

The falls are fullest from March to June after the snowmelt. In late summer the flow drops noticeably. The walk down and back up is steep in places and hot after midday.

Frequently asked questions

Can you swim at Ouzoud?

There are pools at the base where people swim in summer. The water is cold and the current near the falls is strong — stay in the shallow pools.

Are the monkeys a problem?

They are wild and used to people. Do not feed them and keep bags closed; they will help themselves otherwise.
