2-day desert tour to Zagora
The 2-day Zagora tour is the shortest way to spend a night in a Moroccan desert camp: 6 to 7 hours south over the Atlas, a night under canvas near the Tinfou dunes, and back the next day. From €69 per person shared. The dunes are small — if you can find a third day, Merzouga is a different landscape entirely.
Day 1 — Marrakech to the Draa valley
Pickup at 07:30, over the Tizi n’Tichka, a stop at Aït Benhaddou, then Ouarzazate and south through the Draa palm groves to Zagora. Camel ride into the camp for the sunset, dinner, drums, and a night in a tent.
Day 2 — back to Marrakech
Sunrise over the dunes, breakfast at the camp, then the drive back with stops at Ouarzazate and the Atlas passes. Back in Marrakech late afternoon.
Be clear about the dunes
The Tinfou dunes near Zagora are modest — a few dozen metres, not the great ridges of Erg Chebbi. What Zagora gives you is a genuine desert night within two days of your arrival in Marrakech. Judged on that, it delivers. Judged against Merzouga, it does not.
