Marrakech to Fes via the desert

This is the 3-day Merzouga tour that does not come back. You cross the Atlas, spend a night in the Dades valley and a night at the Erg Chebbi dunes, then continue north to Fes on day three instead of returning to Marrakech. From €135 per person shared — it costs more than the round trip because the vehicle ends 500 km from home.

Why people book this

Because Morocco is usually done as a loop, and the Marrakech–Fes leg is nine hours of motorway if you do it separately. This tour turns that transfer into the best part of the trip: you get the dunes on the way and arrive in Fes having already seen the south.

It is the second most requested multi-day tour in this market, and one that most operators handle badly — check that yours actually drops you in central Fes and not at a bus station.

The route

  • Day 1 — Marrakech, Tizi n’Tichka, Aït Benhaddou, Ouarzazate, night in the Dades valley.
  • Day 2 — Todra gorges, Erfoud, camel trek into the Erg Chebbi, night at the desert camp.
  • Day 3 — sunrise, then north through Midelt and the cedar forests of Azrou to Fes, arriving late afternoon.

Good to know

  • We drop you at your riad in Fes, not at a station.
  • Bring your luggage — nothing stays behind in Marrakech.
  • The reverse direction, Fes to Marrakech, runs on the same itinerary at the same price.

Frequently asked questions

How much is the Marrakech to Fes desert tour?

From €135 per person shared over three days, including transport, both nights, dinners, breakfasts and the camel trek. Private from €240 per person for two.

Why does it cost more than the return trip to Merzouga?

Because the vehicle and driver end up 500 km from Marrakech and have to get back. That one-way cost is built into the price.

Can I do it in the other direction?

Yes — Fes to Marrakech runs the same route at the same price. Tell us which way round you need.
