Merzouga or Zagora?
Choose Merzouga if you can spare three days: the Erg Chebbi dunes reach 150 m and the route passes the Dades valley and the Todra gorges. Choose Zagora only if you have two days — the dunes at Tinfou are small and travellers who have seen Erg Chebbi consistently find them disappointing. Zagora is the right answer in exactly one situation: you have two days and no more. In that case it is a genuine desert night, and far better than skipping the desert entirely.
